I'm not even really sure where to begin.
I mean...I have been gone from my blog forever. I try, try, and try again to keep it active but life just gets crazy. Every week is busy, every day, every hour....it is busy.
I've been wanting to do the blog weekly for months now and I say, "I'll do it tomorrow..." but, tomorrow comes and I haven't blogged. I had hoped I'd be able to look back at the blog and say "look at all the fun things we learned and saw this year..." but, alas, probably not going to happen this year because I'm slacking (on the blog -- not so much on life).
Let me give a bit of an update...the kids are all doing awesome. Gator is now 9 and in 4th grade, Peanut is 7 and in 1/2 grade (yeah, we homeschool so there really is a 1/2 grade - ha!), Achoo is 5 and working on K material, Autzee is 3 -- she's wild and then there is Ashtee who is just 8 months old. Man, those 8 months FLEW by!
Last year we did Classical Conversations and a bunch of add ons for schooling. I loved Classical Conversations and I still do but it wasn't a good fit for the Middle Man. He just didn't love it. I did not care for the childcare for the little ones and then that just made it not a good fit for our family...its an expensive program to not love.
I knew this year would be crazy. I mean, life with five kids is crazy....but homeschooling with a preschooler and baby under foot - gah! So, I opted for a different route this year - Calvert. I actually was pretty hush-hush on this for months. In fact, many people probably are JUST finding out we're using Calvert now.
Calvert is one of the oldest homeschool programs in the country and its quite spendy...unless you get the state to pay for it (which, we did!).
I'm really glad we opted to go with Calvert this year because its giving the kids a strong foundation in each grade. There are things I love and things I hate (isn't that with everything?) but it works for us now. I'm not sure what I'll do next year....I'll decide that later.
But, for now - we are loving Calvert! And...I'm super excited to say at the end of this week we're 1/3 of the way completed with this school year!
