Now that we are finally settled here in Ohio Joe has been running every morning. He's prepping for a marathon he will be running in a couple weeks.  This will be his first full marathon but not his first race. He's run many small races and some longer, fun and muddy ones!  We (the whole family) are all excited for him!!  We have been looking at and discussing lots of upcoming races!!!  There are so many incredible races to choose from!

I was really excited when I received an e-mail from Dan over at the Reebok Spartan Race.  He told me all about the Reebok Spartan Race....if you aren't familiar with the race it has been voted the #1 obstacle race by Outside Magazine and are the global leader in obstacle racing since 2005!  This is something that I know Joe would love!!!   Who wouldn't love a race with obstacles?  Especially if you are part of the military community -- this screams fun!!!

After receiving the e-mail from Dan, I started looking into the Spartan Race - oh my gosh! They seem so incredibly cool.  The best part are the obstacles!  I love that the Spartan Race FAQ describes the obstacles as: "There is fire, mud, water, barbed wire, and occasionally Hell on Earth.  There WILL be obstacles to catch you off guard. Curve ball, so to speak. Get over it.The race is made to be for almost anyone - young, old, male, female...anyone can do it (you may want to train first though!)

You can run this race solo or as a team.  They have races in all different lengths and styles, too!  You can check them out here: Spartan Sprint, Super Spartan and The Spartan Beast!  Kids races area also available!!! Can you imagine my kids running this?! They will have so much fun!  Oh...and if you are thinking you want to join in the fun but not do the run consider volunteering to help!

I am huge supporter of the military and I'm excited to share that the Reebok Spartan Race and GovX have partnered and announced the formation of one of the largest race registration discount programs for U.S. Military service members and government first responders through the network. Through GovX, Spartan Race will offer a special $30 discount off all U.S. race registrations to verified active, reserve and veteran U.S. Military service members along with active first responders. This is the first time Spartan Race will be offering this level of discount, as well as including first responders in such a special offer!

On Sept 21 and 22 in Killington, VT they are hosting a Spartan Sprint with $250,000 in prizes!!  NBC Sports Network will also be there to focus on the sport of obstacle racing.  They are expecting tens of thousands of people ranging from amateur athletes to Olympians to compete side by side at this event.  They will chronicle the people and stories behind the race series and air a 90-minute TV special that will air on October 19, 2013 (on NBC Sport Network).

Don't worry - you don't need to head to Vermont in a couple weeks to run the race - there are PLENTY of options!!! And, you have a chance to win a free entry into any race!  I personally think the one at Fenway Park in Boston sounds fabulous!!

The giveaway is open to anyone wanting to run a Spartan Race located in the CONTINENTAL US.  It is for ANY heat 2013-2014.  This will not work for kids races (though, they do have kids races if you are interested).  Winner will be contacted via e-mail and will need to respond within THREE days or another winner will be chosen.
