Follow my blog with BloglovinAnother check, check off the bucket list - a visit to the Quadrangle!
Have you heard of the Quadrangle? Well, I had heard of it but never thought one way or another until I was looking over the "Texas Bucket List" I created and noticed it was on there. This past weekend I googled and googled and tried to find directions. I loaded the kids up and headed that way...sadly, I couldn't find it. The GPS had me going all over.
Here are the directions (for my local San Antonio friends). Head on 35S to exit 159B (Fort Sam exit). Take a right at light heading toward Ft. Sam. Drive straight to gate. Once past guards take first left on Wilson Street. Go straight for about a mile. You'll pass the Main Chapel and you'll go past New Braunfels Street. Your next street is Liscum Street. You'll go left and go to the end where you'll see a parking lot on your right. Park and walk across street following the path to the gate where you can enter the Quadrangle.
Now...the warning...if its not busy the animals will be hungry!! We did not even get in the gate completely when the Peacock came over to see us and follow us around. Peanut was completely freaked out by the Peacock and jumped on top of Autumn in the double stroller. It was a sight...and a few laughs were had from bystanders. I ended up having to hold her in my arms while Gator and Achoo fed the deer...soon when she realized the animals were not eating her brother and sister she decided to join in the fun.
The nitty gritty - its free. They do have specific hours which I believe are 8-5 during the week and 12-5 on weekends. You cannot bring bread or crackers to feed the animals. Feel free to bring fruits and vegetables. They have a small dispenser near the entry gate that you can purchase deer or bird food for 0.25. But, don't depend on that because it was out of bird food when we were there.
I know the photos focus more on the deer and peacock but they did have several other birds there and some signs telling you about each of them. They even had a nesting area!!!! Which was so cool since we just did our Kiwi Crate project!!!!
We had such a fun time!! The kids were so happy and asked to go back again!! Oh....and when I got to the car they announced that we brought a duck home with us!!!
