Bountiful Baskets

My friend K who lives here told me about a program that was about to start a couple weeks ago. It's called Bountiful Baskets. I just loved the idea so I signed up to get my Bountiful Basket! It is $15.00 for a basket filled with fresh fruits & veggies! Many locations also have an organic option, offer breads, meats, etc but so far this location just offers the one choice.

You sign up on a Monday and you pick up on a Saturday (it runs every other week). Each location has a set pick up time. The volunteers are supposed to be at the location one hour earlier than the pick-up time. But last week the truck got lost and so they were running a little late. Above, you can see how they set out all the baskets and you can see the truck in the back where people are unloading boxes upon boxes and more boxes of produce! They put a box of each at the end of each aisle.

Now, one side has a basket of fruits and another has a basket of veggies. They didn't put everything in one basket but instead did it separate probably to make sure that each item got in the basket. At the end, the leftovers were placed into baskets...so some people ended up with two of one thing while others ended up with two of other things but we all had the same "basic" stuff and the basic stuff changes ALL the time.

Our basket included 9 bananas, a bag of spinach, a cabbage, two things of celery, asparagus, 2-3 mangoes, 3 grapefruits, almost 10 apples and 10 oranges, three heads of broccoli and a head of romaine lettuce. We got really spoiled. It was an amazing price and I can't wait to do it again. It was a lot of fun!!!

Now, you'll have to check into Bountiful Baskets to see if there is one near you!!!
