The BIRTH day

Ok...so 2008 - by far the best birthday EVER! Basically - I had gone to the doctors about a month ago and scheduled an induction. I had to induce at 39 weeks because the risk of being pregnant past 39 weeks with a seizure disorder and history of blood pressure issues was just too risky. I definitely did not want any extra risk involved in the pregnancy or the birth...39 weeks was Thursday October 16. And the best part my OB was on that day! I had gone in on 10/14 (Joe's birthday) and saw the doctor got checked and everything looked good. She told me if anything happened she'd be in to deliver me (even before she was on call) by far the most fabulous thing ever! A doctor that cares! We go into the hospital at 6am. We check in and get everything ready. Its one of those things that you know something wonderful is about to happen but you're already experiencing something so wonderful (pregnancy) that its hard to be excited about letting it go. Especially because this pregnancy was just fabulous! The initial plan was to get there at 6am and start the pitocin and have the waters broken about 9am. That plan didn't happen! We had a few little medical issues and I ended up on oxygen with a low blood pressure so when the doctor came in at 830am to talk about breaking my water the pitocin had just been started and I was still on oxygen. I got the ok to take the oxygen off but still had a low blood pressure the remainder of the day...they opted to wait and break my waters later. So...there I sat at 3cm. By 10am I was 3-4cm and by 1130am when the doctor arrived I was 4cm - phew! I was making some progress. She broke my water and then the anesthesiologist came in to do my epi. With all the excitement from earlier we thought it was best to get the Epi right away because we knew I was going to get one anyways. I was very nervous about getting an epi because the hospitals policy is the Dad cannot be present. I guess they've had a few dad's that have fallen over etc. The doctor & nurse stayed with me while the epi was placed and by 1230 I was resting -- numb and resting. About 230 or so I started feeling pressure and told the nurse- she checked 9cm! They called the doctor and she said she'd be there by 330pm. Well about 3pm I said I'm still feeling it - so she checks again - 10cm! The doctor walked in at 315 and checked - 10 and ready!! I started pushing at 330pm...5 sets of 3 (counting to 10)...and my beautiful daughter Amelia Grace Bellucci arrived into the world. Stretching out at 20.5'' and weighing 7 pounds 13.8 pounces...she was just beautiful...with apgars of 9-9! It was the most beautiful birth experience ever...completely painfree and wonderful. Enjoy the pictures!
